Grocery Shopping

The tried-and-true tips for making the most of your grocery budget:

    Before you go:

  • Make a menu (it's not engraved in stone) so you don't forget important ingredients.
  • Make a list; avoid impulse purchases.
  • Use coupons? Organize them before you go.
  • Shop the weekly sales? Plan your route to conserve time and gasoline.
  • Clean out the fridge and cupboards to make room for new stuff, see if you're out of something.
  • At the store:

  • Don't shop on an empty stomach; if needed, splurge on a cup of ice water.
  • Mark items off on your grocery list before you forget.
  • Keep track of how much you are spending, if your budget is really tight.
  • Calculate unit prices to make sure you really are saving by purchasing in bulk.
